Lighthouse Security Group Bought by IBM

by: Bryon Turcotte  /  August 12, 2014

According to a recent article published on the ZDNet website, cloud-hosted security provider Lighthouse Security Group has been acquired by computer industry giant IBM. The article indicates that Lighthouse Computer Services, "_a longtime IBM partner_, "is the parent company of this new acquisition. Lighthouse's "_signature platform_" known as "_Gateway_" protects "_identity and data in IT environments where company information is increasingly being stored in the cloud and accessed from mobile devices_, "according to the report. The details and financial outline of this acquisition have not yet been disclosed, but, according to ZDNet, this is the second major deal "_in the identity and access management space_" IBM has made in several weeks.

The article states that this deal follows "the purchase of CrossIdeas in late July\. " The_ report notes that IBM plans to "_integrate the businesses of Lighthouse and CrossIdeas with IBM's current IAM offering._" It is their goal to produce a "_full suite of identity-focused security software and services." The article states that according to financial reports released by Gartner, the American "_information technology research and advisory firm_, "they have determined that "_IBM has become the third-largest security software vendor, behind Symantec and McAfee, with its revenues up 20 percent year-over-year in 2013 to $1.14 billion._"

The General Manager of IBM Security Services, Kris Lovejoy, was quoted in the article to say, "Business models are rapidly evolving as employees conduct more of their work offsite. Protecting this data and who has access to it has become a challenge, costing our clients time and money. With this acquisition, IBM provides a unique identity and access management offering that combines proven software and analytics technology with expert managed services that make it easy for businesses to tackle the complexities of security in this new digital world."
