Feds Quickly Expand Cloud Adoption Despite Concerns

by: Bryon Turcotte  /  December 19, 2013

A recent study conducted by Tripwire, a security and compliance solution provider, found that United States government agencies are quickly proceeding to expand their existing "adoption of cloud infrastructure_" even though security concerns have been a constant obstacle, according to a recent article published by The Web Host Industry Review website. The report states that when comparing the current findings to those from one year ago, the study reveals that "_four times more respondents are outsourcing at least a third of their IT infrastructure to cloud vendors."

According to the article, Dimensional Research was surveyed over a one-week period in 2013, which measured the thoughts of "100 federal IT professionals from military, intelligence and civilian agencies". Approximately half of those who contributed to the survey, as the article states, confirmed that they would move "_moderate-impact data to the cloud_" – which is a 31 percent increase from 2012.

Dwayne Melancon, CTO of Tripwire, was quoted in the article saying, "A few years ago, the federal government made bold claims with its – cloud-first policy." Melancon continued by saying, "The data indicates that this move is working – not only do stakeholders perceive improved security from this initiative, they are showing confidence by moving more important data and workloads into the cloud." The article also indicated that this study found 58 percent of the respondents noted that "federal initiatives designed to encourage cloud adoption have improved security."
